First off, I wanted mention a video I saw online. It is a mysterious orb descending on Jerusalem, a UFO if you will. While that sounds just like every other video of supposed alien objects, this one is set apart by the fact that it is observed and filmed from multiple angles by multiple groups of unrelated people. Proof? Probably not. But it's kinda cool. The link to one story about it is in the title but if you just search youtube for Israel UFO there are more videos and angles.
I also watched the movie Paranormal Activity for the first time last night. I was actually impressed. It was the first movie that had me even remotely on edge in a long time (perhaps starting it alone at 2 AM was at least a partial cause but who knows). I thought it was better than The Blair Witch Project which uses the same fake documentary style. Has anyone else seen it? And did it work for you as it did for me or are the bloggers who called it boring and unoriginal correct?
And just out of curiosity, what is scarier, unexplainable occurrences or crazy human beings?

I personally think crazy human beings are scarier because their is no chance for rationalization. Unexplained occurrences in time can be explained and possibly dealt with/handled. However, if someone is crazy, you will not be able to think it out or talk it out. Thats my take anyway.
To me, the unexplained is a whole lot scarier than a crazy person. I like to have everything tied up in little boxes of nice understandable things, so when something cannot be explained it really freaks me out. Leaving things to be concluded by you and your imagination can be more horrific than seeing a crazy human being kill, etc.
I have seen Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2 and wasn't too scared. I think I find it hard to connect to movies like that, because I get motion sick from the shaky camera. I know this had a lot less shaky-camera than the Blair Witch Project, but it still had me turning green. I normally am frightened of possession stories, like The Exorcism of Emily Rose (not particularly The Exorcist), but this one I couldn't get into.
I enjoyed Paranormal Activity and I saw the second one and enjoyed that too. Both made me jump a few times and had some creepy moments which is more than I can say for many scary movies I've seen.
I think that the unexplained is scarier because a crazy person can be dealt with by physical force. I'm pretty confident in defending myself in a physical sense but something that I can't fight back scares me.
Unexplained, hands down.
And I can't watch Paranormal Activity movies. I never will unless I never want to sleep again. Sometimes at night at my house (back home) I keep myself awake hearing little noises and imagining that they are either THINGS or people who are breaking in or something, and it takes me hours to get to sleep. DON'T EVEN tell me what happens in those movies. I don't want to be able to imagine it, much less EVER see it.
Gotta side with the "unexplained things" voters on this one. There are certainly more likely to be crazy people in the real world than the stereotypical ghosts, goblins and monsters, but they're still people. Even if we really have no clue whats going on in their twisted minds, we can still understand them as human. Ghosts and whatnot, on the other hand, we can't even begin to imagine in reality, and that makes them all the scarier.
Also, Paranormal Activity was brilliant even if you didn't find it scary. It's a real horror movie compared to the slasher/gore-fests we usually see.
