Antarctica

So I saw the movie Whiteout recently and it got me thinking about a great setting for a ghost story. If you haven't seen it, it's about a series of murders in Antarctica and a female US Marshal, a very good looking one, who is trying to catch the killer before winter, and 6 months of night, comes. The movie was just alright, but it made me think about the fact that someone could write an awesome ghost story with 6 months of no sun to work with.

Have you seen 30 Days of Night? It's one of my all time favorite movies. It's about vampires, really horrific ones, that prey upon towns in Alaska when they have night for 30 days. This kind of reminds me of that.

It made me think of that too. Though I didn't care much for the movie, I liked the story of 30 Days of Night...

I thought of Troubling a Star (Madeleine L'Engle book about a cruise to Antarctica), my friend Alison who wants to go on a cruise to Antarctica, and my new friend Betsy who wants to be a writer-in-residence at the South Pole.

But really, it is the ultimate setting for a ghost story. Because if something happens... what are you supposed to DO?! You're isolated! Yikes.
