Foreshadowing

Just wanted to post about a note I made while reading the book. I think it's really clever how on page 54 Luke says "I thought he was going to send the car into a tree." This foreshadows the ending where Eleanor crashes. (Sorry if I spoiled the ending, but we do have class today so if you haven't finished you should probably get on that...)I love it when things foreshadow the ending, because it's always fun at the ending to go "OH! They hinted at that in chapter ____ !" Anyone else pick up on any foreshadowing?

I didn't pick up on it at first, but looking back at the intro, the very first line is foreshadowing I think. Although it is vague. In its mention of sanity.

But nice find on the car thing! I had totally forgotten that, haha.

I love foreshadowing! Best plot device ever, because people sometimes don't even know you're using it, such as this example from Hill House.
J.K. Rowling was pretty much a genius at this. My favorite example of foreshadowing ever is in
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when they are cleaning out 12 Grimmauld Place and find a locket no one could open....
-- SPOILER ALERT --
It was mentioned soooo breifly, and then that locket turns out to be a Horcrux, and one of the most important ones they find as it's the one Dumbledore practically dies for. AH. GENIUS.
