Game of Thrones

I can't sleep so I'm watching all the HBO on demand stuff about the upcoming series Game of Thrones. If you aren't familiar with the title, it is the title of George R. R. Martin's first book in his series "A Song of Ice and Fire" and will be based on the series. To my delight and dismay, the series is still unfinished after four books. This series got me back into reading after a while off so that plus the fact that it is probably the best series I have read makes these books some of my most favorite. In fact, I am thinking of re reading the first book before the series comes on and hopefully will if I find the time. Needless to say, I am pumped for this series to come on HBO and I wanted to see if anyone else was?

I haven't ever heard of this series. What's it about?

Its hard to describe because the plot is so large but Ill do my best. Basically it is about the struggle for power over the seven kingdoms of Westeros, the main continent featured, between four main "Houses" (families). Although there are some supernatural elements, the series is quite realistic and involves very little magic or monsters. One thing that makes it so great is that, instead of having one bad guy, the story is told from all points of view and the characters are so developed that I found it hard to hate any of them. It is an amazing series and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes epic fantasy.

It sounds worth looking into once we make it out of this class and have the the luxury of reading without a due date. Are you worried about how well they are going to stick to his plot at all?

Honestly the plot is so broad and so much is happening that I think they will be able to be pretty faithful to it. I'm more worried about the characters lacking the same depth as in the books because that was my favorite part of the series.

I love this series. Honestly, this is my most favorite book series I have ever read.

The show starts April 17 at 9pm eastern, and book 5 has a tentative release of july 12th.

There are 3 more books (including book 5) that have yet to be released.

And I agree with Matt is the plot is easy to get, especially with Martin (the author) working with them to some degree. It is character depth that is hard, but they have some decent heavy hitter actors. Like Ned Stark is being played by boromir in LOTR (or guy who played 006 in goldeneye).

I am sooo excited about this, it is starting to near the pathetic level. haha!
