Show The Monster

Hey guys,

If you've got some free time check out this article on Guillermo del Toro. It's a pretty long read but it's very interesting. The article gives a look inside del Toro's life and shows how he goes about creating the monsters for his movies. I thought the article was relevant with us watching Pan's Labyrinth next week and it gives a lot of insight into his creative process. It also talks about his upcoming projects "The Hobit" and "At the Mountains of Madness" which sound amazing if he can make them exactly as he wants to.

W.O.W. You weren't lying. It is long and I didn't have time to finish it. I did, however, read enough to know that I can't wait to see The Hobbit even more than before!! He sounds twisted in just the right kind of way to make the characters pop. The fact that he gave his salary to Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy proves how dedicated he is to seeing his full vision on screen which is EXACTLY what a Tolkein nut wants to hear.

This is a marvelous article, and if you read the whole thing, you eventually learn that Del Toro has left The Hobbit, which now will be directed by Peter Jackson himself. The implication is that a Jackson-directed Hobbit looked like a sure thing and could be financed, whereas a Del Toro-directed Hobbit was not and couldn't be. Another, more disturbing, implication is that Del Toro is becoming better known for the movies he doesn't make than for the movies he does make -- like Terry Gilliam, or Orson Welles. But I sure would love to read his book on Hitchcock's The Birds!
