The skeleton key
I watched the movie the skeleton key this weekend and thought it went well with our class. If you have seen it you will know that it has to do with new Orleans vodoo or that type of magic and takes place in an old plantation style house. I think it is a very interesting movie that many would enjoy but my question was this: how many people think that the vodoo type magic is real? Also has anyone had any experiences or know of any that others have had with this type of magic?

I think hoodoo/voodoo only works if you believe in it. My great great grandmother and grandfather used to be able to say nonsensical words and heal people's ailments, she also had home remedies and practices for different sicknesses that worked. My grandmother still had soot in her thumb where she cut it really deep and my great great grandmother put soot in it to heal. They also believed in holding babies upside down and moving them in weird ways in order to make sure their blood circulated properly and all evil was shaken off of them. They also did some other things I can't remember, and they said some words over my dad who used to have warts and the next day the warts were gone.
Voodoo is totally real. I am afraid of that ghost. Big time. I've been to New Orleans and stayed in the French Quarter, and there was definitely a weird feel to the whole place--sounds in the hotel attic, lights turning themselves on and off... I know it was the voodoo ladies. And trust me, I was as nice as I possibly could be. Plus there is all that folklore in relation to the graveyards and the high paranormal activity. With so very many stories, I can't help but believe something very out of the ordinary is going on there.
